Almost 60 percent of women in state and federal prisons and nearly 80 percent of women in local jails have minor children. To reduce the destabilizing and harmful effects on children of parental incarceration and to give caregivers the best chance of maintaining intact families, PBN volunteers advise survivors on family-related issues and, when appropriate, do necessary legal research and complete associated documents.
